The 'largest restaurant in the world' opens during the Olympic and Paralympic Games - and millions of (star-worthy) dishes will be served there.
During the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024, France is literally welcoming the world to the table. Over two periods of 15 days, as many as 13 million meals will be served. From breakfast to dinner, and from sandwiches to complete buffets – everything is meticulously arranged for the athletes, volunteers, spectators, and media. And now, France, and especially Paris, is the epicenter of gastronomy, so expectations are high.A culinary feast
The Olympic Games offer the ultimate stage for culinary innovation. France is seizing this opportunity to put their 'Food Vision' into practice, which describes how food can be presented creatively and sustainably at such a massive, international event.
Culinary highlights
During the Games, you can enjoy a wide range of refined dishes, prepared by some of the best (Michelin) chefs. Think of:
• Chicken Tandoori by Arkame Benallal
• Poached Egg Croissant with artichoke cream, goat cheese, and truffle by Amandine Chaignot
• Smoked and salted pollock with tapioca in a vegetable broth by Alexandre Mazzia
• Almado-style bread salad by Stéphane Chicheri
• Sweet potato with zaatar, hummus, and chimichurri by Charles Guilloy
The athletes enjoy meals in the 'Athletes’ Village' – 'the largest restaurant in the world.' Volunteers receive generous meals with local and seasonal ingredients, while spectators feast on various sandwiches at locations in Paris, Marseille, and Lyon. And of course, everything revolves around healthy, gastronomic, creative, and sustainable food – 60% of the food for visitors is plant-based and 30% of the items in the Athletes’ Village are vegan.
Sustainability as a priority
Paris 2024 sets the bar high when it comes to sustainability. The aim is to use 80% seasonal and local ingredients, of which 30% are organic and 30% are certified. Food waste is kept to a minimum and 100% of unavoidable food waste is recycled.
A great inspiration
The Olympic Games show that culinary creativity and sustainability can go hand in hand. With a focus on both culinary excellence and sustainability, the Games prove that healthy and sustainable eating is possible during such a major event, without compromising on taste or quality. An inspiring lesson for the world! At SOUS, we work daily with our partners on further sustainability and the use of more local and seasonal ingredients.
