Ron Blaauw, owner and head chef of Ron Gastrobar At Home, started cooking at an early age. When he was 16, he realized he had to make a decision about his future.
This led him to culinary school: "In the end, I chose Amsterdam, which was always in the back of my mind. Away from Hoorn, where I was born and raised. This was it. I discovered that you could make apple pie from apples and gravlax from salmon. That you could be creative, that you could surprise people, that you could make people happy."
